GEM team reading books to kids at McAuley House

These days are unpredictable, so taking care of one another is more important than ever. As a home services company, we help take care of people every day by keeping their homes as safe and comfortable as possible.

However, unclogging drains and installing new HVAC systems isn’t all we do, or all we stand for. To celebrate our true roots, we thought we’d share our story with you, our communities in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, to remind you that we’re all in this together. GEM was founded by Larry Sr. and Gloria Gemma back in 1949, grounded in the values of family, community, and courtesy. Today, their three sons, Larry, Lenny, and Eddy Gemma, champion those values as they continue to lead GEM operations.

What We Really Care About

Through our community initiatives and partnerships with local foundations, we work to promote GEM values beyond the walls of our company, helping to improve the lives of those in our communities.

Aside from living our values, we commit to doing our part in the community. We participate in a number of initiatives throughout Southeastern New England, in the fight against breast cancer, and in the effort to build the next generation of technicians.

GEM In The Community

We partner with Providence-based, McAuley Ministries, a nonprofit 501c3 organization that provides food, shelter, clothing, health services, emotional support, and guidance to the most vulnerable members of our community. Grounded in the values of hospitality, compassion, and dignity, we’re aligned with McAuley and support their mission through programs like McAuley House, McAuley Village, and The Warde-robe.

To help their mission along, GEM hosts the GEM Cares: 12 Days of Christmas Campaign every year to match donations to McAuley House during the Christmas season. We extend this helping hand to the Easter holiday, too, when the McAuley House Easter Hop-a-long happens. Keeping our community cheerful during the holidays is important to us because it’s important to you.

Our Work In The Fight Against Breast Cancer

This cause is especially close to our hearts. We join the fight against breast cancer throughout Rhode Island with our very own Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, which was established in loving memory of GEM matriarch, Gloria Gemma, who lost her fight with breast cancer in 2002.

Gloria Gemma was the mind and the mission behind the Gemma family, providing the strong familial values that still guide our business and this organization today. For that reason and so many more, we are proud to invest time and effort in this organization and what it stands for. You can even get involved if you’d like! GEM For The Future Of Home Services

We also give back to the community through our commitment to training fellow tradesmen and tradeswomen. Highly skilled technicians are hard to come by, and we want to help change that.

We offer education and training opportunities through the GEM Institute, our state-recognized apprenticeship program. The institute offers a mix of code theory and hands-on training to our employees and trainees. This is all supported by our access to industry-leading equipment, tools, and techniques. Why We Do What We Do

To keep it brief: we do it for you! Everything that we do in our community expands on our mission — not only to delight homeowners with trusted expertise and next-level service but going beyond the home to help improve the lives of our neighbors, however we can. In times of uncertainty, we want you to know that you can count on us to help.
