Nate came out first thing in the morning to help with my clogged sewer main. He was very professional and kind. He explained everything with no difficulty and offered multiple cost-tiered options. Mainly whether we would utilize a camera in the process of snaking the main. I appreciated being offered the option. We went with the camera process. So we could fully diagnose the issue, and determine if this would be a recurring problem.
We found roots growing in an old, 2-foot, cast-iron section of my main drainage pipe.
He used a blade attachment and cleared the obstruction to the best of his ability. Then left me with a quote to have the 2-foot section of cast iron replaced with PVCโ€”which is only a small section that penetrated the foundation of my home.
I was very happy with the service, and most importantly the transparent approach which allowed me to make informed decisions.
Nateโ€™s customer service skills were out of this world. I advise GEM Plumbing to invest in this young man.

Incredible company.
I had two whole house central AC units replaced (19 yrs old) and their team and other parts of the company (Plumbling, electrical, etc.) worked together to do an unbelieable installation in very hot conditions. My hats off to your company and we are so impressed that I contracted GEM to install a whole house 25kw generator.

I was able to schedule an appointment for the next day. The technician was great. Chris went over everything that needed to be done and explained it clearly. Very professional. He was also able to offer a discount and waived the fee for the service call. When I reviewed the bill that night, there was an error and the fee hadnโ€™t been waived. When I called Gem the next day, they saw the error and immediately corrected it. Said the refund would be put on my credit card. Very happy with the service.

I am very happy with my well water pump service. David Chapman and his associate were professional, friendly and respectful. David showed me how to change my filter for which I am truly grateful.
It was super easy booking online The next day the dispatcher, (unfortunately I donโ€™t know her name) called to offer an earlier appointment. She was very polite and kind.
My whole transaction was smooth and pleasant from start to finish!

How to Know When You Need a New Water Heater Installed

These symptoms mean your water heater may be done.

Here’s what West Warwick homeowners need to know. These symptoms often indicate your water heater won’t last much longer.

Most water heaters last 8 to 12 years with proper care. If yours is in that age range or older, efficiency has dropped and failure could come any time. Replacing now gives you control over the timing.

Rust or corrosion visible on the outside of your water heater usually means worse conditions inside. Once corrosion sets in, tank failure is a matter of time. Replacing before a leak occurs prevents water damage.

If showers are getting cut short or you’re running out of hot water during normal use, your tank may be losing capacity. Sediment buildup and aging components reduce how much hot water the system can deliver.

Metallic or sulfur odors coming from your hot water indicate problems inside the tank. Bacteria growth or a failing anode rod are common causes. In older systems, these issues often mean replacement is the better path forward.

Water Heater Installation FAQs

What maintenance does a water heater need?

Regular maintenance includes annual flushing to remove sediment, periodic anode rod inspection, and checking the pressure relief valve. These simple tasks extend equipment life and maintain efficiency. Many West Warwick homeowners find it easier to have GEM handle maintenance through our Home Comfort Club, which includes scheduled service visits and priority scheduling if problems arise.

What size water heater do I need for my West Warwick home?

The right size depends on your household’s actual hot water usage, not just your home’s square footage. A family of four in West Warwick typically needs a 40 to 50 gallon tank, while a couple might be fine with 30 gallons. GEM’s technicians consider peak usage times, like when everyone’s getting ready in the morning, and recommend a size that meets your demand without wasting energy heating water you won’t use. We’ll size your system based on how your family actually lives.

How much does water heater installation cost in West Warwick?

Installation costs vary based on equipment selection, any modifications your home requires, and installation complexity. A basic tank replacement in an accessible location costs less than a tankless installation requiring electrical upgrades or a basement installation with limited access. GEM provides upfront pricing so you know the total cost before we begin work.

How quickly can GEM install a new water heater at my West Warwick home?

Most installations are completed in a single visit, typically two to four hours for a straightforward tank replacement. Our technicians serving West Warwick arrive prepared with equipment and parts to handle the job efficiently. We know you need hot water, so we work without unnecessary delays while still doing the job right.

How long do water heaters typically last?

Standard tank water heaters last 8 to 12 years with proper maintenance. Tankless units can last 20 years or more. Factors that affect lifespan include water quality in your West Warwick home, how hard the unit works, and whether maintenance tasks like flushing and anode rod replacement are performed. GEM’s Home Comfort Club helps extend equipment life through regular maintenance.
