Nate came out first thing in the morning to help with my clogged sewer main. He was very professional and kind. He explained everything with no difficulty and offered multiple cost-tiered options. Mainly whether we would utilize a camera in the process of snaking the main. I appreciated being offered the option. We went with the camera process. So we could fully diagnose the issue, and determine if this would be a recurring problem.
We found roots growing in an old, 2-foot, cast-iron section of my main drainage pipe.
He used a blade attachment and cleared the obstruction to the best of his ability. Then left me with a quote to have the 2-foot section of cast iron replaced with PVC—which is only a small section that penetrated the foundation of my home.
I was very happy with the service, and most importantly the transparent approach which allowed me to make informed decisions.
Nate’s customer service skills were out of this world. I advise GEM Plumbing to invest in this young man.

Incredible company.
I had two whole house central AC units replaced (19 yrs old) and their team and other parts of the company (Plumbling, electrical, etc.) worked together to do an unbelieable installation in very hot conditions. My hats off to your company and we are so impressed that I contracted GEM to install a whole house 25kw generator.

I was able to schedule an appointment for the next day. The technician was great. Chris went over everything that needed to be done and explained it clearly. Very professional. He was also able to offer a discount and waived the fee for the service call. When I reviewed the bill that night, there was an error and the fee hadn’t been waived. When I called Gem the next day, they saw the error and immediately corrected it. Said the refund would be put on my credit card. Very happy with the service.

I am very happy with my well water pump service. David Chapman and his associate were professional, friendly and respectful. David showed me how to change my filter for which I am truly grateful.
It was super easy booking online The next day the dispatcher, (unfortunately I don’t know her name) called to offer an earlier appointment. She was very polite and kind.
My whole transaction was smooth and pleasant from start to finish!

How to Know When You Need a New Water Softener Installed

Like all other systems and appliances across your home, your existing water softener will eventually have its final day of serving your home.

By paying close attention to your system, though, you can replace your water softener before it completely fails, leaving you once again with hard water.

If your dishes, glassware, or faucets start showing chalky white residue again, your softener may not be removing minerals effectively. This is a clear sign it’s time for water softener installation in Boston.

When your hair feels dry, your skin feels itchy, or your clothes come out stiff after washing, your softener may no longer be functioning properly.

If your system suddenly starts using much more salt than usual, it could indicate an internal malfunction or aging components struggling to regenerate efficiently.

Changes in the way your water tastes or smells often mean your softener’s resin bed is breaking down or no longer filtering minerals effectively.

Benefits of Water Softener Installation in Boston

If you’ve never had a water softener before, you probably don’t know what you’re missing!

You might be used to dealing with soap scum buildup, faded clothing, and that uncomfortable feeling your skin gets after a shower—but these don’t have to be part of your daily routine.

Hard water leaves behind a mineral residue that can make your skin feel tight, dry, and itchy. With softened water, soap and shampoo lather more effectively and rinse away completely, leaving your skin feeling smoother and your hair looking shinier and more manageable.

Mineral buildup from hard water is one of the leading causes of premature failure in water heaters, dishwashers, and washing machines. Soft water prevents scale accumulation inside these appliances, helping them run more efficiently and extending their lifespan by years. For Boston homeowners, this means fewer repairs and replacements over time.

Say goodbye to spotty glassware and dingy whites. Soft water allows detergents to work more effectively, resulting in sparkling dishes, brighter colors, and softer fabrics that last longer through repeated wash cycles.

When hard water minerals coat the heating elements in your water heater, it has to work harder to heat your water, driving up your energy bills. A water softener keeps your system running efficiently while reducing the need for costly plumbing repairs caused by scale buildup in your pipes.

Did you know that a water softener can even help with the taste of your water? Hard water carries minerals that can affect the taste and feel of your water. By removing these minerals and replacing them with softer ones, you can keep your water tasting its best.

Water Softener Installation FAQs

How long do water softeners last?

Most water softeners last between 10 to 15 years, depending on the model, usage, and how well it’s maintained. Regular servicing can help extend its lifespan and ensure consistent performance.

Do I really need a water softener in Boston?

If you notice hard water spots, soap not lathering well, or buildup on faucets and appliances, a water softener can greatly improve your water quality and protect your plumbing system.

What causes hard water?

Hard water occurs when groundwater passes through deposits of calcium and magnesium, which dissolve into the water and cause mineral buildup in your home’s pipes and fixtures.

Why is salt important for water softeners?

Salt is used during the regeneration cycle to flush out the minerals collected by the softener’s resin beads, allowing the system to continue removing hardness from your water effectively.

How else can I protect my home’s water supply?

In addition to a water softener, installing a water filtration or purification system can remove contaminants, improve taste, and ensure your home’s water is clean, safe, and healthy.
