What You Can Expect from a GEM Camera Sewer Inspection

Our step-by-step process provides clear insight into the condition of your sewer line.

During a sewer inspection, GEM carefully evaluates the interior of your sewer system to identify blockages, structural concerns, and other conditions that may affect performance. Here’s what you can expect during a thorough inspection:

Your inspection begins with a detailed review of the full length of your sewer line. This allows your technician to identify clogs, cracks, misaligned sections, or other conditions that may affect how wastewater moves through your system.

We specifically check for tree roots that may have grown into the pipe through small openings or sewer joints, which might explain recurring backups and identify areas that may require cleaning or repair.

As the line is examined, our team will look for grease, sludge, or debris that may be restricting flow. Locating these areas helps determine whether sewer cleaning or additional service may be needed.

You’ll receive clear video footage of your sewer line so you can see exactly what’s happening inside your pipes. Knowing the condition of your property’s sewer system firsthand makes it easier to understand inspection findings and evaluate next steps.

Our technicians will explain what was discovered and discuss possible next steps. Recommendations may include cleaning, repair, or replacement, depending on the condition of your pipe.

Inspections are performed using existing plumbing access points whenever possible, allowing your sewer line to be evaluated without digging or disturbing your yard.

Tristan was very professional and knowledgable!
Got a problem with your well pump not working? Not a problem! Call Gem plumbing & heating services. Our 100’ deep well finally lived out its life and stopped working. Not a pleasant experience when suddenly you have to get water somewhere and start filling up buckets. I called on Saturday and they came by within a few hours. They checked the pressure tank first then the well. They came back Monday and installed the new pump. I couldn’t have asked for better service! They were there when I needed them!

Scheduling was poor but the service was good.
No answer as I got no formal ask.

However, he was, on time, polite, clean, efficient and answered all my questions ( I’m a retired engineer). I would ask for him on future appropriate jobs. Be good to him. He is of great value to you.
Vincent was terrific! He was able to identify the problem that caused a flood in my basement right away and fixed it.
Moreover he is so calm and personable. Took the time to teach me and lable the shut offs and showed genuine concern.
David is awesome!
We have used Gem several times for plumbing and HVAC. They have always been courteous, professional, and thorough. We will continue to use them for any plumbing needs in the future.
The plumber arrived on time, looked at the problem, told what he would be doing to fix it.(I had a leak in the main pipe leading from the toilet to the exit pipe)That had to be replaced, the toilet drained,a new line through the wall upstairs.A perfect clean up.Christopher was polite.
Always have a positive experience with GEM plumbing and heating whenever we need them. They are prompt, professional and competent. Totally recommend their services.
Very nice people,knowledgeable.
Fixed the problem quickly.
I had a very slow leak under sink. Very professional nice service guys came same day to diagnose the problem. It turned out to be the garbage disposal. Their estimate was $700 for the labor. My other quote for same work from a licensed plumber was $350. Shame I’m out $149 for the service call. I’m still giving 5 stars because I’m sure that this company does 5 star work – but price for the labor for this particular job was twice as much as elsewhere.
Polite, professional and work was completed fast!
Always reliable and courteous service! We have relied on GEM for regular maintenance, repair services, plumbing, new HVAC installation, and even shower installation. We feel we can cou t on GEM to be there when we need them and always perform great work.
The team I had was professional & friendly. Answered any questions I had along with explaining options.
Great job Anthony

Why Scheduling a Sewer Video Inspection is Worth It

A closer look inside your sewer line can reveal conditions that affect how your plumbing system performs.

This level of visibility makes it easier to evaluate potential concerns and take a more informed approach to maintaining your plumbing system, as well as the following benefits:

Sewer camera inspection services can reveal conditions inside the line that may not be visible from the surface. Technicians can locate cracks, buildup, root intrusion, or other structural concerns within the pipe.

Obstructions such as debris, grease, or roots can restrict wastewater flow through the line. Finding these conditions enables you to fix them before they develop into larger sewer line issues.

Targeted maintenance costs less than reactive fixes after a major failure. Knowing exactly where the issue lies helps avoid unnecessary repairs or guesswork.

Regular inspections help maintain the integrity of your plumbing system, extending the life of your sewer lines and reducing future costly repair risks.

Understanding what’s happening inside the pipe allows homeowners to plan maintenance or repairs that can prevent sudden failures.

Frequently Asked Questions About Camera Sewer Inspections

How does a camera sewer inspection work?

A flexible cable with a small camera is inserted into the sewer line through an existing access point. As the camera travels through the pipe, it transmits real-time video that shows the interior condition of the line. GEM reviews the footage to identify blockages, cracks, root intrusion, or other structural concerns.

Will a camera sewer inspection damage my yard or landscaping?

No. The inspection is performed through existing plumbing access points, so digging is not required. GEM inserts the inspection equipment directly into the sewer line without disturbing your yard or landscaping.

How long does a camera sewer inspection take?

Most camera sewer inspections take about an hour to complete. The exact timing depends on the length of the sewer line and how easily the pipe can be accessed. GEM works efficiently while ensuring the entire line is carefully reviewed.

Can minor issues be fixed during sewer line inspections?

Some conditions identified during the inspection may be addressed during the same visit. If buildup or minor blockages are present, cleaning services may be recommended to restore proper flow. GEM will explain the findings and discuss any immediate service options that may help correct the issue.

How often should sewer lines be inspected?

Many homeowners schedule a sewer inspection every few years to evaluate the condition of the line. Homes with older plumbing, recurring drain problems, or nearby trees may benefit from more frequent checks. GEM can recommend an inspection schedule based on your plumbing system and property conditions.
