The service was good.Aiden was very good. It’s just they said they were on there way 2hrs and30 min they finally arrived. Waited all afternoon
The 2 service men were on time, assessed the problem, diagnosed the issue, came up with a plan and offered several solutions for fixing our mini split. They took pictures, tried clearing out mice debris , attempted to get the outside machine to work ( apex 2 hours) Alas a no go, so we decided to scrap it and go with baseboard heater for the room over the garage. Up front information and pricing , no nonsense. Affable techs and so far great service.

I was thoroughly impressed with the superb HVAC maintenance service I received from David Santiago and trainee, Kevin today! Before David and Kevin arrived I was very disappointed with having had my original service date rescheduled to what I thought were spurious reasons? In fact David and Kevin arrived after the designated rescheduled date and time today. GEM's communication was excellent throughout and their people seemed genuine and concerned. When David and Kevin arrived it turned the whole situation around. They could not have been more professional and knowledgable! I am now firmly committed to GEM and their Home Comfort maintenance program.

Signs to Install New Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Like any other system or appliance, carbon monoxide detectors have limited lifespans and will eventually need to be replaced.

Keeping yourself aware of the most common warning signs can help ensure your home stays protected and your detectors are ready to alert you when it matters most. Look out for signs to replace your carbon monoxide detectors, such as:

Most carbon monoxide detectors are designed to last between 5 and 10 years. If yours are older, replacement helps ensure accurate detection and reliable performance.

Detectors that alarm without cause or go off repeatedly may be malfunctioning. This can indicate aging sensors or internal issues that reduce reliability.

If your CO detector fails to respond when tested, it may no longer be working correctly. A non-responsive unit should be replaced right away.

Persistent chirping can signal that the detector has reached the end of its lifespan. If replacing the batteries doesn’t resolve the issue, it’s time for a new unit.

Adding or upgrading gas, oil, or propane appliances can change your home’s CO risk. Installing new detectors helps ensure proper protection based on your updated setup.

What Causes a Carbon Monoxide Leak?

Carbon monoxide leaks are every homeowner’s worst nightmare.

Prolonged exposure can be deadly, and the danger is often made worse by the fact that carbon monoxide is impossible to see or smell. Understanding what causes carbon monoxide leaks can help you stay alert, take preventative steps, and protect your household.

Furnaces, boilers, water heaters, and stoves that burn gas, oil, or propane can produce carbon monoxide if they’re not working properly. Cracked heat exchangers or internal component failures are common culprits.

Carbon monoxide needs a clear path to exit your home safely. Blocked chimneys, clogged vents, or damaged flue pipes can force dangerous gas back into your living space.

Tightly sealed homes without proper ventilation can allow carbon monoxide to build up indoors. This is especially risky when fuel-burning appliances don’t receive enough fresh air.

Running cars, generators, or fuel-powered tools in garages or enclosed spaces, even briefly, can quickly lead to carbon monoxide buildup. Exhaust fumes can seep into the home faster than many homeowners realize.

Appliances that aren’t installed correctly or have been altered without professional oversight may not vent carbon monoxide safely. Professional installation helps reduce this risk and ensures safe operation.

Carbon Monoxide Detector Installation FAQs

How many carbon monoxide detectors does my home need?

Most homes should have at least one CO detector on every level and near sleeping areas. The exact number and placement depend on your home’s layout and fuel-burning appliances.

Where should carbon monoxide detectors be installed?

CO detectors are typically installed outside sleeping areas, on each floor of the home, and near, but not directly next to, fuel-burning appliances. Proper placement helps ensure early detection.

How long do carbon monoxide detectors last?

Most carbon monoxide detectors last between 5 and 10 years. Over time, sensors lose accuracy, which is why regular replacement is important for continued protection.

Do carbon monoxide detectors need professional installation?

While some detectors are plug-in or battery-operated, professional installation helps ensure proper placement and reliable operation. GEM installs detectors according to safety guidelines and local recommendations.

Can the Home Comfort Club help prevent carbon monoxide issues?

Yes. Regular maintenance through GEM’s Home Comfort Club helps keep fuel-burning systems operating safely and venting properly, reducing the risk of carbon monoxide leaks before they become dangerous.
